There are several factors to consider when accessing or implementing UC College Prep courses. Those factors depend on how you are inclined to use the courses and the digital lessons within them. Are you adequately prepared, technologically speaking, to run UCCP's courses online? What preparation do teachers and administrators need to use the courses?

Educators and administrators can access the UCCP content online in our Open Courses web site, or license the courses and control their use. We recommend using the Open Courses site to access lessons as supplemental or complementary materials. License the courses if you intend to instruct them as online courses or in the classroom. Either way, there is no cost for California educators and students to use UCCP courses and content.

Using the lessons posted in the UCCP Open Courses site is simple but will not afford the full array of features that come with a licensed course in a course management system (CMS). Open Courses are presented in a modified version of Moodle, a free open source course management system. UCCP courses and materials available in Open Courses are not instructed, do not include assessments, grade and progress tracking, interaction or communication with other users, and are not eligible for credit.

Licensed UCCP courses are available in HTML format and are ready to import into a course management system or learning management system (LMS), which typically provide grade and progress tracking, discussion boards and communication features that the Open Courses site does not. Licensed courses include a variety of assessments and when hosted in a CMS or LMS, can be customized and enhanced to enable instructors teaching the courses online to create a custom learning environment for students. Since Open Courses was created in Moodle, UCCP courses are also available to download in Moodle format.

Whether you are interested in licensing UCCP's courses or simply accessing content via UCCP Open Courses, there are a few things you need to know in order to make sure that you have the proper infrastructure set to begin teaching UCCP's state-of-the-art content. The resources below will help. If you have questions, use the UCCP Forum or the Help feature of this web site.
